NEWS   Slender: The Arrival now officially supports the Oculus Rift!

slender oculusSlender: The Arrival is about to get even more terrifying, because we now officially support the Oculus Rift – a next generation virtual headset designed for super immersive gaming! Best of all, the update is released free for anyone who owns the game. We showed off a version of Slender: The Arrival with Oculus Rift support a few weeks ago at PAX 2013, and the responses we got were incredible. The Rift intensifies the fear-factor, and gives players a brand new, immersive horror experience. This is a must-try for any Slender fan…if you dare!

For the full patch release notes, check below.

  • Added Beta Oculus Rift support. This can be toggled from the graphics menu. We suggest calibrating drift with the oculus SDK before playing
  • Added Controller support (controller must be connected before game is launched)
  • Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause a crash when loading the first level
  • Optimized and reduced the size of the final game build
  • Radically optimized trees and terrain performance
  • Fixed a bug where the highlighting system would consume a lot of resources drawing unnecessary objects
  • Shadows now cost dramatically less
  • Game resolution and control bindings are now set in a pre-game launch menu. This is to prevent players from choosing a resolution that doesn’t work with their screen (rare) and having easy way to reset it.
  • Flashlight comes on in some dark locations automatically
  • Fixed an issue where the game would not be able to connect to the license server
  • Fixed an issue where easy mode was sometimes not properly toggling in the forest
  • Fixed an issue which would cause SM to occasionally instantly kill the player.

You don’t require the Oculus Rift to play this update, we have added support for the Oculus as an option for those who do have the device. The game can still of course be played without it.

It sounds like your gamma settings have been changed; here’s how to fix.

Load up the game, then hit the ~ key. This brings down your console menu. From there, do the following:

      Type ‘toggledebug’ then hit enter
      Type ‘resetprefs’ then hit enter
      Type ‘reload’ then hit enter

This will clear out your player preferences, so please note that it will also reset your graphics settings.

When you launch the game a dialog will appear asking you what resolution you’d like to play in. There should be a tab that says “Input”. From here you can set any controller bindings.

The settings you should be most interested in:

      Joystick Move Horizontal
      Joystick Move Vertical
      Joystick Look Horizontal
      Joystick Look Vertical

Joystick Menu Select – Typically an ‘A’ button on a xbox controller
Joystick Axis Run – If your controller has triggers, you can bind the run to a trigger here

Show Menu – The pause button on your controller
Interact – This allows you to pick up objects in the world. We recommend putting this on the right bumper
Toggle HUD – The select button
      Focus Flashlight – Left bumper
Crouch – This would usually be the ‘B’ button on an xbox controller

      Hope this helps!

Hi! So this doesn’t technically pertain to me since I do not have the Oculus, however I would like the other benefits from this patch (especially the drastic reduction of system impact) but I seem to still be running v1 from my initial pre-order download.
It checks for updates on startup, however I’m 90% sure that I’m still running the release/launch version of this game because I know after one patch (not sure on which one specifically), I read that the version number of the game is displayed in the bottom right of the main menu. On my main menu, there is no displayed version number. Is there any way to force update? Or a way to download the latest version directly? Because I’d really like to enjoy my money’s worth of this game and appreciate the hard work that Blue Isle has invested to make it better, but my copy of the game clearly is not agreeing with this idea.

Are you saying that the game runs fine until you adjust your gamma? Is this from the main menu or from within the game?

      Cheers,

      Brenden

I can’t select anything on the menu using my Xbox 360 controller. I can toggle between options using the control stick and that’s all. I did double-click each option, including menu select, which I had set to the A button but it doesn’t do anything.
